Morning Roundup: Ourmedia Improvements; Blogging the NAA Conference; Putting Newpaper Podcasts in Perspective

Posted by Tish Grier

JD Lasica announces changes in store for Ourmedia. Amongst the new features: expanded social media capabilities and a digital learning center created to help individuals develop podcasts, vidcasts, etc. Says JD: "Longer term, we're still committed to improved search, open standards, an open registry to make sharing and accessing multimedia easier, and to working with others on a distributed commercial marketplace to let artists earn money from their long-tail works."

Merrell Ligons blogs from the NAA Connections Conference, held this week in Orlando, Florida. Merrell, from the Best Recruitment Practices session, on a new term for measuring impact that's making the rounds - "Power Ranking": "Apparently you can determine the Power Ranking of a website by multiplying unique visitors by pageviews."

Also attending the NAA Conference are Media Hub contributors Jay Small and Steve Yelvington.

The Editor's Weblog puts newspapers' nascent podcasting projects in perspective in interviews with three senior new media managers: Rob Curley of the Naples Daily News in Florida; Guy Ruddle, the recently appointed Podcast Editor at the UK's Daily Telegraph; and Howard Saltz of the Denver Post.

From the interview: "The Naples News newsroom jumped right into the podcasting mood, buying nearly every journalist a digital recorder at the cost of about $50. The paper also bought the technology necessary for recording phone interviews and began accompanying print articles with audio transcripts of interviewees."
