Coalition Launches Efforts to Save Net Neutrality

Posted by Tish Grier

The Save the Internet Coalition today launched a major campaign to increase public education on Network neutrality and to lobby Congress against abandoning it. From the organization's website: "The SavetheInternet.com Coalition is a group of grassroots organizations, bloggers and concerned citizens that are banding together to protect a free and open Internet. The Coalition believes that the Internet is a crucial engine for economic growth and democratic discourse. ... From its beginnings, the Internet has leveled the playing field for all comers. Everyday people can have their voices heard by thousands, even millions of people. The SavetheInternet.com Coalition -- representing millions of Americans from all walks of life -- is working together to ensure that Congress passes no telecommunications legislation without meaningful and enforceable network neutrality requirements."

JD Lasica, who reports he was interviewed by NPR for an All Things Considered show that will air tomorrow: "As with everything, it's not a black-and-white issue. Safeguards need to be put in place that the next-generation Internet being engineered in educational settings isn't held back by requiring equal access before it even rolls out the door. But on the whole, Net neutrality is an important principle for us to embrace as a society, wih potentially large consequences for grassroots media makers."
